The problem
Your store sells it. ShipCompliant has to approve it. Nothing connects them.
ShipCompliant is where producers handle alcohol shipping compliance: whether an order can ship, the alcohol tax, and the record the states ask for. WooCommerce is where the order happens. Between the two there is a gap, and every shipped bottle has to cross it.

How it works
How Bonded connects WooCommerce to ShipCompliant.

Checked at checkout
As soon as there is a shipping address, Bonded asks ShipCompliant whether the order can ship and what the tax is. It is a quote, so nothing is saved yet. Place order checks again with the date of birth.

Paid, any way you take payment
Card, PayPal, a gift card or your point of sale: Bonded never touches the money. It waits until WooCommerce marks the order paid.

Committed in ShipCompliant
In the background, usually within five minutes, the order is saved and committed under your WooCommerce order number. If ShipCompliant does not answer, Bonded tries again on its own.

Read back and proven
Bonded then reads the order back and compares the key, tax, bottles, address and prices. Only then is it called committed. A daily pass re-reads the last 45 days.

Is there a ShipCompliant plugin for WooCommerce?
Yes. Bonded is a WooCommerce plugin that connects your store directly to your own ShipCompliant account. Every install is custom: we fit it to your store, prove it on your checkout, then keep it current on a yearly plan.
Can WooCommerce handle alcohol shipping compliance on its own?
No. WooCommerce handles ordinary sales tax, but it does not know each state's alcohol shipping rules, volume limits or alcohol taxes. Bonded asks ShipCompliant at checkout and uses its answer.
Do I have to leave WordPress to ship wine or spirits?
No. Many winery platforms ask you to rebuild your store on their system and take a share of every sale. Bonded keeps your WooCommerce site and connects it to ShipCompliant.
Can I keep WooCommerce and still use ShipCompliant?
Yes. Bonded connects your WooCommerce store to ShipCompliant directly, so you keep your site, your checkout and your hosting, on a yearly plan with no share of your sales.

Do I need my own ShipCompliant account?
Yes. Bonded connects to your account with a web service user you create in ShipCompliant. We do not resell ShipCompliant, and your agreement with Sovos stays exactly as it is.
Who is responsible for compliance?
You remain the license holder, and ShipCompliant makes the compliance and tax decisions. Bonded makes sure every shipped order is asked, sent, committed and proven, and tells you the moment one is not.
Does my customer data go through your server?
No. Bonded runs on your own WordPress server and talks to ShipCompliant directly. If you choose our monitoring, your store reports counts and health only, never names, addresses or dates of birth.
What happens if ShipCompliant is down?
Shipped alcohol cannot be bought until it answers again, with a plain message to the customer. Merchandise, tours and pickups keep selling. Paid orders wait and retry on their own.
Can you move us off our current middleware?
Yes. Bonded stands by while your old connection is on, takes over in one step, and can hand back in one step. Orders already sent by the old system are left alone.
Which payment methods work?
Any WooCommerce payment method that marks an order paid, including PayPal, card processors and a point of sale. Bonded never takes or refunds a payment itself.
Wine, beer, spirits or cider?
Whatever your ShipCompliant account is set up to ship. Product types, carriers and pickup rules are set up for your store during the project.
Is this a ShipCompliant product?
No. Bonded is an independent connector built by Shaun Wilson Designs. It uses the ShipCompliant web service your account already includes.
