Tick everything that matches your site

Your answer updates as you go. Nothing you tick is sent anywhere or saved; it all stays in your browser.

What visitors see

Check your site from a phone on cellular data, not only from your office.

Visitors get sent to another siteSpam, pills, casino, a fake prize or a "you won" page. Try from your phone on cellular data, and by clicking your site in a Google search. Pop-ups or ads you never addedAds, fake virus warnings or "allow notifications" boxes appear on your pages.

What Google shows

Search for your business and for site:yourdomain.com.

Google shows "This site may be hacked"The line appears under your listing in Google search results. Chrome shows a red "Dangerous site" or "Deceptive site ahead" screenVisitors see a full red warning page before your site loads. Search results show pages you never madeSearch Google for site:yourdomain.com and look for Japanese text, pharmacy, replica goods or casino pages.

What you see behind the scenes

In wp-admin, your hosting account and your inbox.

Admin users you do not recognizeCheck Users in wp-admin and filter by Administrator. Plugins or files you did not installAn unfamiliar plugin, or odd PHP files in the main folder or in uploads. Your host suspended the site or emailed about malwareHosts scan for infected files and outgoing spam. You are locked out, or your password changed by itselfThe reset email never arrives, or your admin email address is different. Your email bounces or gets flagged as spamCustomers say your messages land in spam, or your host reports outgoing spam. The site is suddenly slow, or the host says it uses too much CPUNothing changed on your side, but pages crawl.

How exposed the site is

These are not signs of a hack, but they are how most hacks start.

WordPress, plugins or theme have not been updated in monthsThe Updates screen in wp-admin shows a long list. The server runs an old PHP versionTools, Site Health in wp-admin shows the PHP version. Anything below 8.1 no longer gets security fixes. A "free" copy of a paid theme or plugin, or one that was pulled from WordPress.orgDownloaded from a sharing site, or the plugin page says it was closed.

Your result

Nothing ticked yet

Work down the list on the left. Plain-English next steps for each one you tick appear here.

This is a symptom checklist, not a scan. A site can be hacked with none of these signs, and some of them have harmless causes.
